The sumo wrestling Tatsunami stable held a hemp massage to celebrate Toyonoryu's promotion to yokozuna. Making a yokozuna's rope is called "tsunauchi," and during this process, the hemp is covered in rice bran and kneaded until it is thin and soft, a process known as "asa-momi." New yokozuna Toyonoryu also took the unusual step of joining in the hemp massage midway through. He worked hard at the hemp massage, smiling along with the wrestlers from the Tatsunami stable and his school, saying things like, "It's difficult," and "You all did a great job."
The full "tsuna uchi" (rope braiding) is Thursday, and when that is done, Hoshoryu gets to wear it, and learns the dohyo-iri.
