precious scene from S2

i could talk for days about the painstaking attention to detail within the script for ted lasso. the writers put their heart and soul into all the characters — and that's why each one has so much depth to them. roy is a layered personality — he has let his anger lead him all his life; but at his core: it isn't what defines him. it is this — what he offers rebecca in this moment when she's choosing less than what befits her brilliant personality: his unyielding generosity & clarity of vision. she deserves the world — and roy isn't afraid to say it.

he might let his anger guide him, yes — but what that anger also does is burn away the doubts and fog that could and often do threaten to overwhelm other people, leaving behind a fierce kind of empathy and loyalty. whether it's with phoebe, or keeley; or even jamie in later seasons — roy is unfailingly dedicated to their betterment and needs. and even though he and rebecca haven't interacted much up until this point — he offers that same firm, implacable understanding of what she really requires.

it's only a few lines of dialogue — but with it you can see exactly how committed roy is to helping the people in his life see the truth of their own value. how his anger has only helped him sharpen his insight and vision about the people he cares about.

it's just brilliant writing all around. 💛
