[META] Why has this subreddit become so cynical and mean spirited about everything?

I am asking this because I have seen so many threads with highly upvoted comments that are condescending towards the most minor and innocuous of things.

Like it is one thing to be condescending towards media that has been deemed to be average or bad by majority of consumers and critics but I have seen this happen with media that have been universally acclaimed also which is just baffling to me.

Also the amount of doom posting due to certain failures in industries is ridiculous. Yes something like Concord was terrible and it flopping is a major news event for the gaming industry last year but to extrapolate that as a signifier of the status of the entire industry seems extremely shallow? We have had so many great games released both AAA and indie, I just don't know why we are constantly obsessed with bringing up the one game that very famously very few people played or cared about.

It seems like the only media that don't face this kind of treatment on this subreddit is SEGA games and One Piece + Chainsaw Man. They are the sacred cows of this subreddit. And it is fine to love them but I don't get why do you needlessly shit on everything even when they are very successful products like PS5 or Shonen manga like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia.

I am not saying to engage in toxic positivity. Good criticism is both helpful and insightful to read. And obviously make jokes. But like stop taking media that you don't like so seriously and in a dramatic manner because it genuinely doesn't matter at all. Make your jokes and criticisms but don't constantly obsess over it while repeating the same things that have been said in hundreds of posts about that media before.
