What do people in “finance” even do all day?

Every time I open tiktok and get a video of someone doing a "day in the life" in a finance role, It's always the same thing:

  • Tube Station
  • Walk to Office
  • Video of them at a desk
  • Going to a cafe for lunch
  • Another video of them at a desk
  • Some video of them eating at a restaurant
  • Gym clip
  • Home

It's never showing what's on the screen, and nothing on it ever looks like it requires a degree or a certification it looks more like you answer emails all day and use basic excel functions.

So my question is: What do these professionals actually do in their workday? And what do you need the degree for?

edit: Bonus question: What do the people earning £100k+ do? No one manages a spreadsheet for £100k surely?

edit 2: Background on myself. I'm mathematically and logically minded, with the will to really push myself to do the job well. I would love to do this job doesn't matter if it's spreadsheets or whatever.

edit 3: Ok, i'll give an example.

What is the person hired to do this job doing in their day. Why does the job want a Maths background , what is it actually wanting from a candidate? Does it want me to have worked in trading before? The job description doesn't mention experience.

edit 4: I'm really grateful for your answers. Seriously appreciate the insight.

Industry is being watched ASAP.
