My (F22) symptoms seem severe and I am struggling with a low quality of life
I first got diagnosed with UC in November 2023. The only symptom I had prior to this was blood in my stool. I had really regular and seemingly healthy bowel movements (besides the blood). I had a colonoscopy at the beginning of November and everything went drastically down hill from there. There was significantly more blood, like couldn't see the toilet bowl anymore. I was needing to go frequently, and it was always extremely urgent. It felt like if I couldn't make it to the bathroom within two or three minutes I would soil myself. This continued for a few days following my colonoscopy and I figured it was just from irritation from the procedure or something. Except it never stopped. It continued to get worse and worse and I've really been struggling in my day to day life. I've been missing a significant amount of work and I haven't slept through the night in over two months from having to get up to go to the bathroom. On a good day I'll have 6 or so bowel movements, on a bad day it's twice that. I've tried cutting out red meat and dairy and have been avoiding fiber when I can. I use a mesalamine suppository every night and take 1.2gm mesalamine pills every morning, along with iron supplements to help with anemia from loss of blood. I've been talking to my doctor through the patient portal but I don't have an appointment with them until May 22. I don't know how much longer I can keep doing this.
