First time attempting a rebuild on my ej255

Hey guys dumb question maybe as I'm a noob and backyard mechanic but. My friend has an ej257 longblock from his 16 sti that he offered me. (66k miles on it). Came with his car when he bought it separate as previous owner swapped an entire new ra longblock. Was wondering if I can just swap the short block out for my 250k ej255 shortblock in my 07wrx? Some sources are saying yes but idk if I'll run into any troubles with mounting anything or parts not lining up? I'll be sending my heads out to get decked and valves checked out.
