Investigation into the GInPF investigation

Happy new year!

Shortly before Christmas, the GInPF officer /u/feiyangsun with the ingame name 你说这个谁懂啊 has made a post adressing their internal investigation about their banned cheaters. /u/feiyangsun was previously named "freeFPEwhen" in War Thunder and still uses the nickname for discord and on this website.

Chapter I: Purpose and Preliminaries

In his post the user /u/feiyangsun claims that only 5 of their members were actually cheating while their commander and another friend of his are merely victims since they handed out their WT accounts to someone else. Unfortunately, we believe that /u/feiyangsun is not honest with his post. We claim that he is purposely withholding incriminating information about GInPF members and accounts.Later in this report we will unveil some of our findings, which will paint a completely different picture compared to their public "investigation".

We decided to not provide full evidence for every small claim such as a name changes. There are two reasons for this:Since we believe that up to 30 name changes happened to obstruct evidence, we don't want to reveal our methods for keeping track of usernames to not render those methods useless in the future. Furthermore, in case /u/feiyangsun decides to refute our claims again, we are then in the comfortable position where we can provide additional evidence and expose him as dishonest once again for free.

It was mentioned that if you accuse someone of cheating, it is the duty of the accuser to provide sufficient evidence for the allegation, not the other way around.I believe this to be true, but once a player gets banned by Gaijin, this principle is inverse. The banned player needs to prove he wasn't actually cheating and some missunderstanding has happened.

Lastly, I feel the need to mention that I don't want to read any derogatory or generalizing comments about the Chinese culture in video games. Such emotional behaviour does not serve any purpose but to anger the people we are talking to.

Chapter II: Banned GInPF accounts

These are the 7 banned accounts /u/feiyangsun has disclosed and given explanation for:

Name Previous nicknames Current explanation for ban from post
KaNaDE Cheating
我是秦始皇V五万送你T80BVM Cheating
Bili_大意的E某人_G Cheating
忠肝义胆吕奉先 Cheating, but alt account for Bili_大意的E某人_G
狂野无边 This mystery will be revealed in Chapter V Account owner inactive since Summer 2023, possibly cheated on by unknown people from the GInPF squadron
JJrrrrRR Not cheating, trusted the cheater Bili_大意的E某人_G to grind his account
NF_Elvis Not cheating, trusted the cheater Bili_大意的E某人_G to grind his account

Interestingly enough, these are the exact 7 banned accounts we originally confronted /u/feiyangsun on discord with on December 19 this year. His initial explanation was that "they were banned because of naval botting".

/u/feiyangsun claiming the 7 accounts above were naval botting

After informing him that most of the accounts barely have any naval games played and therefore his explanation doesn't make sense, he changed his story about one hour later. Now he claimed that "Jr, NF, Bili hired other people to grind the tech tree for them". We understand that the here mentioned "Bili" is the banned account from the list above.

/u/feiyangsun changing his story for the first time an hour later

This already changed explanation from December 19th stands in conflict with his current explanation given in his investigation on December 23rd. The explanation now seems to be:

Jr, NF hired Bili to grind the tech tree for them.

We see these three explanations as an escalating admission to cheating. First everyone was just naval botting, then a unknown grinder not related to GInPF was cheating and currently it is claimed that only a few people, mainly Bili were cheating while others are innocent. But if two previous statements were wrong, how can we know the third one is honest and correct?

In their investigation, /u/feiyangsun left out 5 more banned GInPF accounts which we didn't discuss with him on December 19:

Name Previous known nicknames Part of GInPF at least since
HaDea August
XiaoHi August
Greatest Artanis Noobmankind April
Karelin Lift August
夕顔輝き おうさか しずく, RealFreeHibiki April

I was not able to find any comment from /u/feiyangsun regarding these banned accounts. Why did he not disclose this information in the big investigation that is supposed to provide transparency and clear up any misunderstandings?

I also want to emphasize that other first page squadrons either had zero bans in december or at most one. The reason for this is simple, we listen to accusations and remove players that are likely to be cheating. In contrast to that, GInPF has 12 banned accounts.

Chapter III: The excuse of naval botting

I now want to focus on the very fashionable excuse a banned player was "just naval botting". While educating myself on how it works via posts like this, I came to the conclusion that a navalbotter downloads a possibly malicious program that aims and shoots for him but also makes the ship cruise around. So to my untrained eye, it's an aimbot with extra features people use to grind Silver Lions.

Why do (banned) people claim that use of such software makes them less likely to have cheated in other game modes aswell? Maybe this is just my own naïve world view, but this feels like a criminal who is charged with robbing a bank claiming that he was only trying to rob the cashier of her purse.

Chapter IV: The former commander JJrrrrRR

In the original investigation by GInPF it is claimed that their banned commander JJrrrrRR paid the cheating Bili_大意的E某人_G to grind on his account. Giving someone else access to one's account has many risks:

  • Account sharing is against TOS section 3. While this rule is not really enforced by Gaijin, the risk of getting banned for this violation still exists.
  • The person you share your account with might waste your Silver Lions, Golden Eagles or activate your valuable coupons.
  • The person you share your account with is cheating on your account or gets you chatbanned.
  • If you are the commander of a #1 squadron, the person you share your account with now has the power to disband your squadron, erase the record of your achievements and delete the score achieved via hundreds of hours playtime for the squadron leaderboard.

We can see, as the commander of a squadron, sharing your account provides a much greater liability. Furthermore, if any of these were to occur, 127 other players in the squadron now suffer from the damage.

Since I might be naive and unexperienced with paying someone to grind for me, I was trying yet again to find a parable to help me understand this case better:

Imagine you need something in your house fixed and call a handyman for the issue while you are at work. If your apartment is small without valuables inside and money is tight for you, maybe you gravitate towards hiring someone under the table who is not paying taxes and costs you less. Sure, there is a risk he might steal something, but the damage cannot be not very high. Now imagine you are someone important, live in a nice house with valuable things and secrit documents from your work in it. Why risk saving a few bucks but losing any kind of insurance for damages the handyman might commit against you?I would consider the second scenario to be so stupid, that I have a hard time believing it.

While I cannot provide any clips of the banned GInPF commander JJrrrrRR, I came across someone from the Chinese community who is accusing him of asking for cheats and then cheating.

Chinese player claiming JJrrrrR asked for cheats in September

The person claiming this is from the casual chinese squadron HeTu, which is accused of cheating in random games by other people of the War Thunder community.

Chapter V: The legend of JQwang

The player JQwang has been accused of cheating since February 2023. He became the focus of allegations for aimbotting in aircraft from tournament and SQB players alike after this 5v5 tournament from February 25. The Chinese team under the name "Halo1" played two matches; they beat a German newcomer team called "BWGER" and then got eliminated by the team "PinguHard" which consists of experienced tournament players.

The Chinese lineup for "Halo1" can be identified as 狂野无边 (banned), JJrrrrRR (banned), 你说这个谁懂啊 (/u/feiyangsun author of the GInPF investigation), JQwang, Zéphyranthes, Aspekte and 春日野-穹. This information is available when clicking on the team. It is important to note that the nicknames of the "Halo1" team members are the current nicknames for these accounts. Accounts might have been renamed and had a different name back in February.

These clips are from two separate matches (each composed of two individual games). The recordings are server replays are from the POV of an account that, at time of recording, was under the username “JQwang”.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAmt4DJg6yA

In the clips above you can see the player with unnaturally smooth tracking of the enemy while headoning other planes and strafing ground. Our claim is, that he doesn't even aim himself but uses an aimbot to lock onto targets.

/u/feiyangsun calls these clips "sus, but sus is not enough to kick him"

If we shift our focus on the first match between "BWGER" and "Halo1", we can see that the following five players played in the match from the match statistics on the tss website:

Current Name (from TSS website) Accumulated assists over two legs against BWGER Name in February (from Video)
JJrrrrRR 3 JJrrrrRR
你说这个谁懂 2 freeFPEwhen (old nick)
狂野无边 3 JQwang
春日野-穹 5 Nagishiro
JQwang 0 JQwAnG

We registered a name change for Nagishiro to 春日野-穹 in late April 2023, same for freeFPEwhen to 你说这个谁懂 (although he created a low level alt account with the original name). We did not register a name change for JJrrrrRR.The missing February names from the Clips are JQwang and JQwAnG.

One might assume, that JQwAnG simply renamed to 狂野无边 and got banned, while JQwang whose aim we can see in the clips remained himself and is unbanned. This is the simplest solution, something everybody would initially believe - but it is impossible!

If we check the video at 0:52 we can see, that the account named JQwang in February does have an assist from the Game between "BWGER" and "Halo1". The recorded server replay clearly shows this.

This means, the account that was named JQwang in February (at least one assist in that game) cannot be the same account that is named JQwang today (0 assists in that game).

JQwang renamed in April to LiCH_KinG and in May to 狂野无边 before he got banned in December, while JQwAnG was renamed to JQwang afterwards.

This can only be interpreted as an attempt to dodge the reporting system and erase evidence of him aimbotting. Why is /u/feiyangsun, who played along him in the February tournament and who has been his fellow officer in their squadron for almost a year, withholding this information? He even explicitly states in this comment that the JQwang from the clips we showed him is not banned and calls the other user who claims exactlly that a liar. It is ironic, that he mentiones in his post the player 狂野无边 formerly known as JQwang is promised to "be block-listed by them permanently".

His other account, formerly known as JQwAnG but now renamed JQwang also has a highly suspicious clip from March 2023:

https://youtu.be/WTZNtyRR_cw

/u/feiyangsun confirmed the obvious in this comment: The account back in March known as JQwAnG is a secondary account for JQwang.

We also believe that JQwang has two more alt accounts, CrUsher (formerly JqWang) and _-SwifT-_ (formerly JQwanG).

Chapter VI: The current commander Sir this way

We are accusing the current commander of JNRF (the new GInPF Squadron) with the name Sir this way of cheating. He was also previously known under the name "_Vater_", the rename happened in April 2023. It is important to note, that there are two spaces between "Sir" and "this", but many websites struggle with that.

This video shows a match from July 19 between GInPF and RO6. It is recorded with ultra low quality.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbZIxbaQZb8

He is playing a TTD (Rank VII Great Britain) with thermals. At the start of the clip you can see him briefly switching into the thermal vision, but he then remains in the regular gunner sight without thermals for the rest of the clip.

He is looking into the city and proceeds to shoot a tank at 0:14 that is for me not visible behind some destroyable rubble. It is an unlikely kill, but not impossible. After that, another tank is pushing towards the same corner. At 0:31 in the video, the player Sir this way tries to prefire the second player who has not pushed around the corner yet and should not be visible to him through the buildings.

The recon drone is flying on the other side of the map (visible on the mini map), there is no yellow squad ping or red drone ping on the crossing before he shoots. He has no information on a second tank but still decides to prefire.

This is not the only other player from GInPF that people are suspicious about, but we are not going to accuse players publicly for now without being able to provide evidence. Doing so would only start a witchhunt based on hearsay against a possibly innocent person.

Chapter VII: Conclusion

/u/feiyangsun changed the explanation about 7 banned accounts twice within a few days. After being lied to twice about this matter, I personally do not believe his current explanation. I have laid out above in Chapter IV why his third iteration of explaining the banned commander is implausable, everybody is free to speculate and decide what they believe.

Furthermore he has not disclosed that 12 instead of 7 accounts from GInPF got banned. I understand it is very tempting to not mention the other half dozen accounts, since the more banned accounts you are accociated with, the less trustworthy you become. Together with the 3 other JQwang alt accounts, we are at 15 cheating GInPF accounts.

And lastly, /u/feiyangsun did not disclose the JQwang name change and ban to the public. Instead he decided that is the hill he wants to die on, calling other people liars on this platform.

The initial investigation by /u/feiyangsun has been so incomplete and incorrect that I don't think he can claim it on incompetence. I believe his post is incomplete and incorrect on purpose to deceive the reader and create some breathing room for him and his friends.

The new squadron's motto is called "Jr and Nf forever" to pay respect to accounts that have been banned for cheating and is under the rule of Sir this way, who has sincere cheating allegations against himself.

In my opinion, the attempt to rebuild trust has failed. Happy new year.
