[3861 Speedmaster] New arrival
I’ve long been a fan of the Speedmaster, and have owned a relatively clean 145.012-67 (albeit with replacement hands) bezel and dial original and with nice patina.
It was a special watch, but one that had to be worn carefully given the age, likely tired seals (even though replaced) and I ended up selling it.
I later owned a 1861 flat dial, but didn’t really bond. The bracelet end links were too long for my wrist so the watch sat oddly, the clasp too chunky and of course, plexi has its charm but let’s face it, nothing beats the every day practicality. I also didn’t like the center seconds hand, especially given my experience with an original 321.
Enter the 3861, an absolute masterpiece from omega. Having spent a lot of time listening to Mr Daniel’s interviews, his fascination with space and respect for Omega, and the fact he had a watch named the Space Traveller, I feel the 3861 is the final frontier for the coaxial, from a practical every day perspective.
They got so much right, and I’m struggling to find something wrong with it.
