Producing music on an ancient piece of hardware (2015 MacBook Pro)

Hi!

I've been getting back into music production after an extended break cause by a toxic relationship, and, being a very non-technological person, I came to a startling conclusion: producing music in 2018-2019 (shoegaze/altrock with LOTS of guitar overdubs and plugins) my laptop had no trouble processing it all on ableton. Now, on the other, just two or three tracks in Logic make it stutter and freeze up, sometimes even restart completely. Unfortunately, without that I literally CANT work on music, which is literally my only hobby, and getting a new laptop is seriously out the question for me.

Is there any way to set up my laptop for the best possible performance? Are there any tips and/or tricks for producing music on older hardware?
