When I first got into PKD and heard his take on American anti-intellectualism, I didn't really get it. People aren't opposed to education in general, surely! Everybody says to go to college and make something of yourself. But then they hate you for it. My own dad encouraged me to go to college at the same time he was calling it a brainwashing factory.
