Yall like Eli???

Me and my gf just finished watching season one of the show annddddd

We both found Eli to just be incredibly insufferable? I was sorta surprised to see so many people on here liking him sm? We don’t think Taylor was the best person ever, and definitely made some mistakes but we always felt like she at least had reasons behind her behavior outside of herself?

Genuinely could not find any redeeming qualities from Eli throughout the show. He acts really impulsively, is spiteful to his only care takers, and is constantly feeling emasculated by things his wife HAS to do for him because he, quite frankly, doesn’t have the capacity to do so?

The whole show he’s framed up as the fun flirty feminist who really isn’t that much of a feminist. The nice guy trope in a way? Where Rob is outwardly expectant of his wife to dote on him, to treat him “like a man”, I felt like Eli was was somewhat the same but on the inside.

The conversation with his agent getting all hyped up and plotting to “trick” his wife and her lover into a threesome, the comments about jade’s cooking and house-wife behavior, yelling at his wife for stepping in to prevent him from being beaten up, flashing jade (still doesn’t make it ok if she’s into it!), sleeping with jade and immediately trying to hide it, yelling at his wife for finding his OD traumatizing.

The whole show we couldn’t understand why Taylor wouldn’t divorce him. We couldn’t understand what he was actually bringing to her life outside of the fact that they were married? It wasn’t even that he didn’t work in over two years, it was that he wasn’t doing anything to really support his wife during those two years. The fact that house hold work was only getting done now that there was another woman in the house, thinking back to the “can you get me a soda?” Scene, made us think there was gonna be a more nuanced conversation made about gender roles in modern relationships??? But no,

TL:DR, dawg what, how did he not die at the end? Why was he worthy? Ugh, I’m sorry but fucking hate that guy.
