Did they change or did we?

In the late 90’s, early 00’s (college for me), Applebees was THE family place to go, even a nice treat with the buddies or dates if we could afford it on our own. And then there’s Red Lobster, the place to really go celebrate with the family (no affording it with just the buds though).

But these days, Applebee’s is almost a last resort and Red Lobster is just tacky and at best meh. Even the Cheddar Bay Biscuits just barely rate decent anymore.

Is it us and our evolving tastes (maybe not even just our generation by the others) with newer and more interesting and more modern flavor profiles and options? Or were they are actually a lot better back then? I half-believe it’s the latter, but that almost feels like it’s just the reminiscences of younger times, maybe?

The title and most of this post makes it’s sound like I’m going to go chase the kids if the lawn next.
