Weird question- Does anyone have sensory stimulation ideas that aren’t audio?
Hello! I use podcasts to get through most tasks- cleaning, cooking, filing work emails, etc. It sort of provides enough background stimulation that I can focus on the task. (I can’t take ADHD meds for medical reasons.) If it’s a task that takes more word processing space in my brain, like reading or writing something complex, I’ll either need to be motivated by anxiety/urgency, or I’ll listen to one song on a loop.
I have a work project that requires my full listening attention- I’m editing an audio file. I feel utterly stuck, partially because this is very new, partially because I’ve been given no deadline, and partially because I can’t use my normal coping strategy of listening to something while starting the task.
Does anyone else add background stimulation to get through tasks, and do you have any ideas that aren’t audio? I tried hugging a pillow on my lap, and it kind of helped, but not enough. Slowly eating little snacks helps, but there’s a limit to how many nuts or chocolate chips I can eat in one day.
Thank you for your help!
