Should I have blocked this caller or should I have waited?

I just got a call from a number with Caller I.D from Texas (I only noticed it was from Texas afterward) and I answered. The caller asked for my mother, they knew her name and asked can they can speak to Blank. I said she’s not here, I’m just her daughter. Then caller said she’ll “try again later”. I asked what she needed and she wouldn’t answer my question. They just reiterated that they’ll try again later. I then blocked them. The whole conversation gave me the spooks.
