Are theodicies useless to someone who believes in no god or external forces or wills (i.e. karma) affecting our universe?

In a practical sense are theodicies not applicable in someone like the above’s life when trying to assess the question of why is there evil. Would there even be an objective evil to consider applying an explanation too? Would instead try to explain it through stuff like human nature? If so then what would explain the human nature in this case?
