Should the term be transsexual? transgender doesn’t make sense?

It seems like the term transgender doesn’t make sense because it’s the gender itself which motivates dysphoria, thanks to it not aligning with your sex. So people change sex characteristics or change their sex to align with their gender.

But they’re not changing their gender? Maybe their gender expression but it seems like if you could change your gender then you could just, make it match your sex?
