Annual leave

Just curious, does anybody’s work have a policy where they can only take paid leave that is accrued? No option to take unpaid leave if you wanted to do a longer trip?

Meaning that, if you wanted to take a 4-week trip in the middle of the year, you’d have to accrue paid leave over years (because of a mandatory Christmas shutdown).
