Getting diagnosed as an adult

Hello, everyone. I'm curious how many of you got diagnosed as an adult, and how? I asked my primary care physician and he said they generally refer to a psychologist. The only problem is that they only psychologist that's in my insurance network is booking out into 2025. I will certainly wait if I have to, of course. But I would very much like to get an official diagnosis before then, if I can. I've been dealing with some sensory and communication issues lately and I'd like some advice and coping mechanisms as soon as possible.

So, can I ask... were you an adult when you were diagnosed with autism? Who gave the diagnosis and did they give you any helpful information and advice?
