BSC Book Discussion #36 Jessi’s Baby-Sitter.

Author: Ann M Martin

Release date: August 1990

Back cover summary: Jessi can't believe it. Her dreaded Aunt Cecelia is moving in to take care of Jessi and her brother and sister. How humiliating—Jessi's going to have a baby-sitter!

Plus, Aunt Cecelia is a drill sergeant. She tells Jessi when to go to bed, how to wear her hair, and she even forbids her to go to a Baby-sitters Club meeting.

Jessi knows she's old enough to take care of herself—but how can she tell Aunt Cecelia that?

Oh boy this book boy do I have a lot of say about this book. Aunt Cecilia, I’m on her side a couple of times in this book. She should not have to admit that Jessi is a better babysitter than her. She has a successful son that she raised with her husband. I know they don’t have the maturity to like sit down and talk to her with the stuff they did was mean sometimes. I know Cecelia was strict and overbearing too but at least she didn’t prank them back without talking to Jessi’s parents first.

And poor Jackie, he just wanted to build a working volcano. Jessi took that competition way too seriously. I liked Charlottes project too, this was a first mention of modern popular culture wasn’t it with Duran Duran?

The Pike library is also a cute chapter, I'm guessing only Vanessa, Mallory, Byron, and Margo were the ones that read the most, they contributed more books.

I did like the scene where she was forced to miss a meeting, and they just kept calling the Ramsay’s over and over just to know the jobs Jessi wanted and Cecilia was super annoyed.

I love the foreshadowing in this book, like Stacey feeling sick and Mallory's dad might get laid off.
