Not sure where to start to lose weight

I'm (17f) going to leave for college in about 5 months and I'm finishing my last year online so as soon as I'm done with school I have a lot of free time just to earn money and get ready. I really want to lose weight during this time since after having depression I gain a good amount but honestly Im not sure where to start. I'm trying right now to increase my water intake and go on lots of walks but I worry I'm wasting time. There's just a lot of conflicting advice all over the place and I'm a little overwhelmed. Any advice?

For reference I am 5'6 and 195 pounds. My diet is actually improved a lot and I'm focusing on getting protein in. I'm pretty weak and have super low resilience but I'm determined to improve.
