I hate my current car
Little backstory before I get into the discussion.
Back on the morning of Friday, April 26th 2024 on my way to work; my car (2023 Jeep Compass) got totaled after a truck ran a red light and nailed the front driver side of my car. Dead on hit to the front driver side wheel, no damage past the door hinges. Somewhere between 30-45 days later; things finally settled with insurance (this is when I got the final decision that the car was totaled) so I had find a vehicle to purchase without a trade in and not much of a down payment on a credit score of about 650.
I went to CarMax after some in depth research finding that I would quickly get a car through them without a crap ton of hassle. I got a 2015 Jeep Compass Latitude for $13,325.62 at 18.89% for about 60 months. Because of the accident, I got GAP with it. Standard warranty. Before the warranty expired, the alternator decided to fail and throw the belt off the other components, stranding me on the highway on my way home. That was taken care of with no issues and no out of pocket expense from me.
Now, the car has the occasional shake or jerk to it when idling, and sometimes it will jerk or shake while in drive and moving. That along with needing new tires and other work. I believe would end up costing me somewhere of $2-$3k. Unless it’s a bigger issue with the engine then I’m SOL. It doesn’t help that I hate my car.
I would love nothing more than to kick this thing to the curb and get back into a Wrangler. I understand that getting rid of the vehicle now may not be the smartest decision, so I’m being very picky about the finance terms before I sign on the dotted line. Has anybody had a similar experience with a vehicle from CarMax? How did you come to a decision?
Also, one of the only reasons why I’m considering CarMax for another purchase is because most banks and credit unions will not finance anything older than 5 years. So if anybody knows of a bank or credit union that will finance vehicles as old as 2013, please let me know!
