Minyoli - Taiwanese brunch in Andersonville
I've been curious about this place since it opened and was sad to see some of the initial reviews were not super positive. Decided to give it a shot regardless, given that there isn't much Taiwanese food in the area. Was initially going for the beef noodle soup of course, but didn't realize until we got there that they do a special Sunday only brunch menu that doesn't have beef noodle soup.
Ended up doing the Taiwanese fried chicken shao bing (baked flatbread) and special beef shank+mustard greens beef shao bing along with some you tiao (deep fried stick of dough)+soy milk to dip. Apologies for the subpar photos, we had scarfed down about half the meal before I even thought to take some.
Everything was great, the Taiwanese fried chicken was perfect and transported me back to Taipei night markets. I have a problem/obsession with fried chicken, and if you've never experienced Taiwanese fried chicken, I can't recommend it enough -- generally it's lightly fried and seasoned with some really awesome and simultaneously complex yet subtle spices that lead to a perfect mix of sweet and savory. Sad I didn't get to try the beef noodle soup this time around, but I will definitely be going back.
For whatever it's worth, the restaurant was only about 50% occupied when we walked in yet when I tried to make a reservation online beforehand, it said there was no space available.
