Hysterectomy- to keep ovaries or not?

Hey everyone,

I'm 29 and very sure of my choice to never biologically have a kid (especially with the current political situation in the US). I've been lucky enough to find doctors who support my choice to have a hysterectomy even at my age, and I'm scheduled for a surgical consultation at the end of this month! I'm really excited about it- part of me being childfree is for outside reasons (poverty, unstable politics) but part is also a terrible phobia of pregnancy, and I'm glad I just won't have that sitting on my shoulders.

I figured a lot of you in this subreddit are well researched on various types of sterilization, and how to advocate for oneself in a medical setting, so I had some questions.

Does keeping atleast one or both ovaries actually help stave off the effects of menopause like bone density loss?

Can taking artifical prescription hormones accomplish this same thing?

If you do keep your ovaries, what are 'periods' like with no uterus/tissue/bleeding?

If you've gone through menopause relatively young, or had a hysto- whether you kept your ovaries or not- can you tell me a little about your experience and what to expect? Do you regret keeping or getting rid of the ovaries?

I know obviously these are questions I have to settle with my doctor at the consult, and probably an endocrinologist as well, but I'd like to hear lived experiences from people who actually underwent the procedures and what they would change, if anything.

Thanks yall 💛
