first time pls help

i’ve watched 2 videos. one used a melanger and tempers, the other doesn’t. i’m confused about how necessary it is. the guy who didn’t had perfectly smooth chocolate that snapped nicely. is it worth investing into one a melanger if i wanna try the hobby out?
