Civ 7s Deluxe and Founder's Editions are overpriced, unlike the base game
There have been a few posts recently on here arguing that the Civ7 base game provides a lot more content than Civ6 for appropriate prices when adjusted for inflation. I completely agree; the base game is a great deal!
But the balance flips when you compare the Civ 6 Deluxe edition to the Founder's edition.
Civ6 Base had 19 civs and leaders for 60$
Civ6 Deluxe had 7 civs and leaders for 20$
So for a third of the price, you get over a third of the civs and leaders, which is very reasonable. I'm excluding the scenarios, new city states, wonders etc. Also with civ 6, you got R&F + GS for 70$ that doubled the number of civs.
Civ7 Base has 31 civs and 22 leaders for 70$
Civ7 Deluxe has 4 civs and 4 leaders for 30$
Civ7 Founder's also has 4 civs and 4 leaders for 30$
I'm including personas as separate leaders here. Which means that for almost the entire cost of the base game, you get around a third of the civs and leaders.
Inflation has been bad, but it hasn't been that bad. If the combined Deluxe + Founder's were 30$, that would be extremely reasonable but I really don't see why it would be worth the 60. Even if you consider the civs being more detailed, it would still be not worth more than 40$.
Edit: A lot of people are interpreting this game as me saying "don't buy the game." I want to emphasize that this is not what I'm saying at all. Buying the game doesn't make you a shill, if you feel this is reasonable, have fun! There's obviously a lot of subjectivity involved. But criticizing the pricing doesn't make me a toxic hater either.
And yes, I know I can just not buy the DLCs, but again this is subjective. To give my personal example, I'm Indian and I really want to pay as Ashoka, World Conquerer, but as of now I have to dish out 60$ to get that one persona. We don't know if the persona will be available as a separate purchase, and at what cost. And I have to make the purchase before Feb 28 to get it.
The DLC pricing is terrible, and should be criticized. I think the devs absolutely deserve to make profits for their game, and I hope they make a ton of profits because that'll mean more content for everyone. But you can make profits through more clear and transparent pricing as well.
The game itself looks great and I'm excited to play it whenever I do get my hands on it.
Edit 2: A bunch of people are pointing out that I neglected early access, which is true. If you bought any of the editions for that reason entirely, feel free to ignore this entirely. Have fun!
