Almost a year in the making!
I can't believe this blanket is finished! I started just making colourful solid squares last year, with the hopes of having enough to turn into a blanket at some point. It has been my between projects project for almost a year, and in a way I'm sad it's done now as it was always so easy to pick up when I wanted to crochet but didn't know what.
I posted my layout for the blanket last week which my cat Ruby so kindly rearranged for me - I loved reading all of your kind comments so thank you for that 😊 I didn't think much of the blanket at first, but the positive reaction to it really helped me see it for what it is, which is amazing! Of course Ruby is still obsessed with the blanket, at this point I'm pretty sure it's hers but maybe she'll let me borrow it some time lol.
For anyone interested in the details for this blanket; each of the squares are just standard solid crochet squares, with 1 row of single crochet for the border. I used a 4.5mm hook and DK yarn. There are 180 squares total. I used single crochets to join all the squares - I tried slip stitching first but that was joining them way too tight! After I had joined everything, I did a row of single crochet around the full blanket, then 2 rows of the iris stitch to finish! By this point I thought I was done, but each of the squares kind of puffed out a bit which I didn't love the look of so I steamed the shit out of it which flattened the whole thing out and really improved the drape too. Was a big effort to do it right but I figured I had already spent so long on it, it deserved to be perfect ❤️
