Palm Sunday, what a dud.
I've been dabbling in attending other churches for the last few months while I've been seeing myself out of the church. My wife still attends our local ward and so I split time between going to my ward and going to other churches.
Today was a Palm Sunday service with the local Methodist congregation. Readings of Mark, Samuel, and Isaiah describing the triumphal entry into Jerusalem, a sermon based on those readings and discussing the events of Holy Week, palm fronds waved during part of the service. It wasn't my cup of coco, but it was a nice service focused on Jesus and the events of Holy Week.
Fast forward two hours to the LDS "Palm Sunday" service (as it had been hyped up by the ward to invite your friends because Elder So-and-so would also be giving his homecoming talk).
Literally no difference from any other dry LDS sunday service. Literally zero reference to Palm Sunday, Holy Week, the Savior (beyond, "this is his church and I know he loves me), etc. Not even a special musical number. It was as dry of a homecoming retelling as you could get.
If I was a Christian looking for a place to come to church and came in looking for a Palm Sunday service to start my Holy Week, I would have been sorely disappointed.
I don't think that most members realize just how boring our services are when compared to even a conservative service at another church.
