What's so bad about RYM?

I always see people from other music communities trashing RYM for being a generally pretentious website (which i do understand) with a snobby community, but every time I ask them what to use instead, they suggest AOTY, which in my opinion just has more surface level ratings which prevent you to find good music. I have also seen that AOTY's community is quite puerile, with most reviews being absolutely horrible.

So I wanna get yall's opinion of RYM, and if you believe whether what others say about it is true or false
