A successful January Wrap Up

So January got off to a pretty good reading start!

15 books this month. With a breakdown of:

0 five ⭐ reads 5 four ⭐ reads 7 three ⭐ reads 2 two ⭐ reads and 1 one ⭐ read

Some standout comments/thoughts:

{Monsoon Rising by Thea Guanzon} is a pretty decent sequel. Much better paced than the first book, the romance was also much better developed and felt more natural to read. It feels like the author hit her stride much better with the story telling and I am interesting to see where book three goes.

{Lady Macbeth by Ava Reid} Was a quick and disappointing read. For a reimagining told through the 'feminist' perspective it felt like a lot of power and agency were actually stripped from Lady Macbeth compared to the original play. Also a lot of weird changes that felt odd and unnecessary and didn't actually add anything interesting to the tale.

{Yumi and The Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson} was a really fun read and a great recommendation for those wanting heavier fantasy elements but with a nice background romance. I loved the world Brandon Sanderson built in this book and the bond Yumi and Painter built throughout the tale was great. I also loved how the narration for this book was done. It felt almost Pratchett-esque. Bonus points for it being a standalone.

{Filthy Rich Vampires: Three Queens by Geneva Lee} Holy Christ on a cross what even was this book. The first two I could enjoy as stupid, don't take it seriously, palate cleanser reads between heavier fantasy series. But book three just goes ENTIRELY of the rails and feels like you're reading a completely different series to the one you started. I couldn't even laugh at the absurdity of the books anymore because it was just so nonsensical.
