Unironically though how does someone like Burt function normally?

This deranged version of himself cant be who he is 100% of the time in the real world considering he has a bachelors and a masters degree and is somewhat successful career wise. Is it just that fishtank has peaked his mental health issues? Or does he get home from work everyday and let loose with the schizo ramblings and gooning to ease the pressure?
