Framer for a portfolio website - pros and cons?
I'm looking into updating my UI/UX portfolio and thought Framer looked like a great free option.
My current portfolio is on Wix (the free version) but I want a fully responsive website catered for all devices. I'll have about 6-9 projects, and each one is going to have its own page, as they have all been approached differently.
I've been looking into loads of website builders from Squarespace, Webflow, Cargo, and WordPress but, they all do need subscriptions to keep working with them for that extra push, pages, and personalisation. Of course, I understand why, but at this point in time, I don't want to be tied to a specific builder as I always like updating styles and colour themes to keep it fresh.
I'm proficient in HTML, CSS, and JS, and I was also contemplating using Jekyll themes, but I want to spend time on my content and case studies and show myself off as a designer, as my projects already display my developer skills.
Framer seems like a great option right now and I've had a little play around on it with breakpoints too, seems quite intuitive since I know Figma very well, but I would appreciate some opinions and thoughts on it as a long-term portfolio website!
- Have you run into any issues after publishing your website/portfolio?
- Is Webflow still seen as a superior option to Framer, and why?
- How has it been to create animations (i.e. something like a loading bar) on Framer, I understand that there aren't too many tutorials available, but since it has a similar framework to Figma, have you been able to navigate through problems yourself?
- In your opinion, do you think Framer is the future?
Any feedback would really be helpful :) thank you
