Finasteride or lowering dose?

So my hairline is definitely receding, at least at the corners/temples. I’d like to keep my hair for as long as possible, so would lowering my dose a bit help slow things down? I once asked my doctor about finasteride and they basically told me no and that it would completely negate my transition. I have a new doctor so I could definitely ask again, but just wanted to know if anyone here has any experience with just decreasing your dose
