Why would Metro do this to us with Superhero?
This is a rant be warned. It’s been almost two years since the song came out and I have heard the song likely a couple hundred times and I still just don’t understand why. Why would Metro do this? Take one of the best bangers Future has dropped this decade and halt all momentum the song had after the second chorus, sloppily slow the track down and add a random Jay-Z sample (relates to the theme but still questionable), and then get Chris Brown of all people to blandly sing for 30 seconds about how people are tearing him down since he’s up and not for… other reasons people may not like Chris Brown, and asking “who’s really the villain?” as if this isn’t, once again, Chris Fucking Brown. It baffles me whenever I hear the track that Metro believed this was a necessary addition to this otherwise incredible Future song, still an absolute classic. I can’t think of a reasonable explanation for how it fits sonically because its tacked onto the end and sounds nothing like the beginning. It doesn’t make sense in the context of the rest of song outside of technically fitting with the Heroes and Villains theme. I see no reason why he had to do this. Maybe it was a true act of villainy on his part as he has forever tainted one of the best songs on the album and of that year. I know Future and Metro put out other great songs since but I don’t know if that truly makes up for this crime against humanity. The rest of the album was fire but I still can’t quite forgive him. Years from now I’m still gonna be skipping Chris Brown on Superhero and I’m still gonna be upset about the fact that he was there in the first place when it was so avoidable and unnecessary. Why why why why why why why why why why why? You could’ve put anyone and anything on the second half of the song or just allowed Future to do the full song and you decided to do neither and do this. Why? People will listen to this album a century from now and still have not found out why this happened and scratch their heads the same way we do today. Fuck Chris Brown. I don’t trust you Metro Boomin. And Future, I wish you had stopped him from ruining a generational hit for you.
