”Wrong” video game endings

I remember playing Metal Gear Solid as a kid and I had no clue about what’s going on with the torture scene and multiple endings, so I always got the ”bad ending”. So I didn’t realize until I saw Meryl in MGS4 that I had gotten the wrong ending all along.

Has anyone else here got similar stories to share about video game endings?
