Beware when traveling with golf clubs - Fort Myers, FL Airport

A warning to anyone flying out of Fort Myers: I was not allowed to bring my club heads (driver and fairway woods) in my carry-on. I have always taken off the heads and carried them with me on the plane. The supervisor at TSA said, “I don’t care if you’ve always done it this way. It’s not allowed.” I’m honestly not sure if it was just one guy on a power trip or if this is actually the policy. I was made to go back out of security, pay an additional $50 to check my carry-on bag, then go through security again.

It’s possible I’m just clueless, but wanted to warn others who pack this way when traveling with clubs.

EDIT: People seem to be misunderstanding my point. “I’ve never had this issue when carrying on my club heads.” Yeah, neither have I. Until today. That’s why I’m making the post. I’ve done it this way for 10 years with no problem. But if you’re in the habit of doing it that way, maybe take a different approach if you’re flying out of Fort Myers. That’s all.
