Is buying used pedals a great idea?

I was just wondering. I'm on a budget and lots of pedals on reverb are about $20 less that new(not all of them, of course). In that case it almost seems logical to get a new pedal rather than get used. I got a used Keeley and that was in great shape. They tell you the condition. Thoughts? Thanks
