I accidentally posted a controversial question in the wrong sub and now I have a "warning". The mods said I broke Rule 1. Help?

The sub r/tooafraidtoask is about asking controversial or embarrassing questions. Many of these questions are about religion, race, culture, etc. It's literally the name of the sub.

Well, I asked a question about something that turns out is a common questions in that sub. So many people have asked about it.

Except I accidentally posted it in the wrong sub. Honest mistake.

I asked the mods to rescind the "warning" since it was a mistake and a common question in the correct sub. But they said ANY questions about race, ethnicity, etc are prohibited on reddit. But a quick peek at the r/tooafraidtoask sub shows that's clearly not correct.

What is the rational for "warning" someone for a simple mistake and then lying about it?

Edit: the question was if a certain group who has very strong smells from cooking know if they have strong smells or not.
