How to decide when to stay/sell a house with MANY issues

Title says it all- my husband and I are torn between staying or selling.

Context: We bought our “dream home” two years ago in the best neighborhood in our city, but we’ve had a really unlucky streak…

The house was $425k, and so far we’ve spent $20k+ in repairs fixing things that the previous owner did incorrectly (e.g., they installed all the toilets wrong, which caused leaks that required either new flooring/ceiling in 3 places. They poorly patched a roof leak that led to damage in the ceiling/wall of our sunroom, they poorly water-proofed the basement which needed to be entirely redone to make the space livable, and they used the wrong caulk by all sinks/showers that got moldy and needed replaced.

We also had a huge storm and are overwhelmed by sorting out 30k in damage with our contractor and insurance (insurance is covering it, but it’s stressful nonetheless).

My peace of mind with this place is gone- I thought it would be a sanctuary but it’s so stressful, one problem after another. To top it all off, our mortgage will be $700 higher per month next year due to taxes/insurance. We can swing it, but it kinda feels like a sign.

We’re very torn. Our neighborhood is incredible, our neighbors are perfect, the space itself is fantastic for our stage in life. But it feels like every other week there’s something new to fix, patch, or repair.

Has anyone been in a similar situation before? If so, what did you do and are you happy with your outcome?
