Some violence

Hello, new to the genre… I’m wondering if there are books that contain some visceral violence without getting too gory? Not nuanced with the genre - this is a horrible oversimplification - but can’t help but feel like it’s ‘extreme gore vs haunted house’ without much in between (I’m looking for something in between). While I like weird fiction and spooky vibes, I think what I’m looking for is basically the book equivalent of a Rated R horror film (bc I need some violence to get scared).
