Question to those who were American allopathic med students and went to “university” IM residencies (not ‘community’ programs). How are the jobs?
Serious question. And i am not necessarily saying AMG and univ trained hospitalists are “better” than FMG, IMG, community grads.
But i think it’s important to make this distinction.
I think there is a REAL BIAS that many of the desirable, well paying and good metro area workplaces are hospitalist jobs primarily given to “American” trained MD docs.
This is true for my gig, not a single IMG in our large group and I make a bit over 400k for closed icu, no crosscover and 13 nights a month in the chicago burbs.
And while i am not in charge of hiring at my gig, I know that our admin/leadership routinely ignores all applications submitted by anyone with IMG background. And this was also true at all my prior jobs! And i know for a fact we haven’t take anyone from community places.
And i have many residency friends who are similarly situated in chicago and other states.
There is no doom and gloom for us. Only those who voluntarily stick to academics, yes they are getting shit pay.
It seriously seems like the constant complaints about jobs on this subreddit are coming from J1 visa whatever dumpster fire locales.
