Emma and the “lesson” of gratitude and moderation

Just wondering if anyone else has thought on this. I feel a big part of Emma (and shockingly since she is described as very wealthy herself and spoiled) is how she is always generally grateful inside her heart for her life. She loves the beautiful countryside she lives in and is rich but there is a comparison often pulled between herself and Frank Churchill as well as Mrs. Elton.

Even in the very last pages of the book it’s remarked how their wedding was perfectly fine and loving but Mrs. Elton found it dull and lacking in splendor. Which is interesting because we are poised with this image of Emma often in modern media as lavish and ostentatious and while she is on some level she is definitely a foil to the “over spending high risk keeping up with the Joneses vibe.”

Mr knightly as well is a representation of this simplicity and gratitude for wealth that Emma learns is part of her heart all along. And is one of Emma’s wonderful traits.

Just wanted to know what other people’s thoughts were on this. Frank Churchill is seen being obsessed with traveling more and bored with his life and that always struck me as someone who might be overly liberal with their spending, which Emma eventually saw as unattractive in a romantic partner (but fun in a friend).

(P.S. Miss Bates is the ultimate version of this gratitude and while she’s absurd she is definitely painted as having the right mindset, striving for more but being thankful for what you have)
