Incredibly anxious about bikejackings in London?
As an aside, I have anxiety and it’s to the point where it’s kept me up at night worrying about shit.
I’ve recently got a new folding bike. I’ve not cycled in years - back in the day I used to cycle commute in south wales.
Alas I’ve moved back to the big smoke - few kg heavier and a little slower, I want to get fitter again and enjoy life again.
I feel out of the loop so went down the rabbit hole of Reddit/Cycling UK etc. and I can’t help but notice a distinct uptick in assaults on cyclists. Drivers quite happily grabbing onto handlebars and ramming offside.
Particularly some pretty nasty bikejackings where the thieves don’t even give you a chance to hold your hands up and say “take it. Go away” without giving you a shoeing. I’ve even seen something about a Deliveroo rider stabbed for his bike in broad daylight down a busy high street???
I’ve ridden both motorcycles and push bikes back in the day and only once encountered a theft (it was outside my house and ended up burnt out in an alley) and once did I think someone was trying to scope me out and I pelted it (Moto) in the other direction - fortunately a passing police van and traffic also got in the way.
My point is… is this well founded fear or should I get a grip and not let this ruin my experience before I’ve even started? Is it as common in London as it seems.
I’ve been lucky for the most part in my little corner of wales and I acknowledge that as well as the fact that scrote and shit drivers exist everywhere.
