Any tips on dealing with body dysmorphia during weight loss?
Basically what the title says, I have lost 23kgs (50lbs) in the last 18 months or so using calorie deficit and moderate exercise but I don’t feel like I look any different, I felt alright about it for a while especially with the occasional comment from people who haven’t seen me in a while but I looked back on my ‘before’ pics and as much as I was surprised at the time, now that’s all I see in the mirror. It’s like I feel like I was just imagining the changes I saw over this time.
Now granted I did start at a very high weight and I still have a long way to go, that’s what makes it harder to see a difference even 23kgs down. I have about 30kgs to go until I hit my first big goal but I’m struggling to find motivation because I don’t see a difference. Other people seem to have noticed so I don’t think it’s just that I’m imagining it but I just can’t see any difference anymore.
I can’t use clothes as a kind of guide because when I was bigger I was wearing things that were way too big in an effort to sort of hide the fact that I was big so I have no idea if I’ve gone down sizes or anything, which I admit was one of the things I was looking forward to.
As hard as it is to admit I started my weight loss at 21 years old weighing 135kgs, now 22 and 111kgs. A long way to go, I know. It’s just really hard to appreciate how much better I FEEL when I still see 135kgs especially with how hard the loss is.
If anyone has any tips or ways of seeing it in a different way let me know 🥲 thank you 💞
