(Likely) incoming PhD student - what areas are nice, affordable, and close enough to UWM?

Hi! So, I just got an admit to UW Madison today for a PhD program. Still kind of in disbelief. My fiancée and I are already wanting to start planning for September. We’re coming from Louisville, KY.

I’ll be making about $40,000; she’ll likely be somewhere around $50,000.

Are there any specific areas, neighborhoods, or suburbs we should prioritize in our search? Ideally, I’d like to be pretty close to UW Madison.
