Received a job offer. Need advice please!
Hi guys, 43 male working in the IT industry. Married with 2 kids in secondary school. Got a job offer to join a startup company but some dilemmas I’m facing and need to hear 3rd party insights.
Current MNC company seems hard to get career progression but the environment is great. Everybody’s like a family. Since just before covid manager A told me he’s working to upgrade my salary band, but keep hearing the same thing every year. Problem is with this MNC there has to be a justifiable need for a certain level to be opened or if someone leaves, then I can fill in that spot. But its soooo hard and so many good employees stuck at the same job levels. Manager A is a very good manager and is like a star in the company. He handles quite a lot of responsibility and juggles it well. Now, he started a startup company on the side and wants me to be in a supervisory role woth 2 engineers under me.
Current job: - Monthly rm12k + rm500 of OT - 8 years with MNC company - 8 years in the same salary band - Senior engineer role - Salary difference since start till now, rm1k increased. - Flexible working hours within 8am - 10pm. - Be in office once or twice a week. - Insurance covers immediate family too - Working under manager A for 8 years - Will still be doing the same thing - Job security is there
New job: - Monthly rm15k - Startup company by manager A - Supervisor role - Flexible working hours within 8am - 10pm. - Be in office once a week. - Insurance to subscribe by own and claim back the fees - Career progress into management - Job security (1year?)
However, after some calculations, i noticed that; New job; yearly around rm180k Current job; from EAform shows i make around rm181-183k (plus OT)
Is the new job worth it?
