Marriott employees - is it cringy to ask for upgrades through the app before check-in?

I’ve seen many people suggest that they ask (kindly) for an upgrade if possible via the app before checking in. I’ve done it once, and even though I made sure to be polite and not set any expectations, it just felt uncomfortable. If you work at a Marriott, what do you think when you get messages like these? Does it actually prompt you to look into upgrading the guest, or is it just annoying?
