For Marriott Associates: How would you prefer guests recognize employees that have gone above and beyond?

I've had my fair share of getting Bonvoyed (no hot water, non-functional AC, no late-checkout honored, etc.) as well as really wonderful stays across Marriott.

What's the best way to callout employees that really made me feel special during a stay? If applicable, would you prefer I don't mention a room/suite upgrade or additional complimentary amenity (e.g., extra breakfast vouchers, welcome basket, etc.) I had received?

I've done the traditional: calling / emailing the hotel manager and leave a note, endorsing the associate on guest surveys, google maps, and trip advisor reviews, tipping when appropriate, leaving a Thank You card with small packaged food (e.g., chocolate), etc.

But I feel like getting upgraded and free food have been what have made me feel special on my most memorable stays. I haven't explicitly mentioned that as it feels like the associate only did a good job due to 'giving' away margin for the property.
