Why Can’t I Renegade?

Let me start by saying I’ve played through these games multiple times. However, every single play through I tried to be renegade, I failed. Am I just too inherently nice? I want to be renegade but I struggle with it. Same with Dark Urge on BG3. Am I alone in this?
