What happened to 100% Wool?

60M here wondering what has happened to 100% wool clothing for men, which has seen a drastic decline in mainstream availability and affordability over the decades. 100% wool used to be the standard for men's professional clothing, including suits, dress pants, sport coats, and blazers. 100% wool fabrics breathe, drape naturally, and don't pill.

Is 100% wool no longer as appealing to men these days? Or is the trend towards blends and synthetics for "dress clothing" driven more by manufacturers' cost-cutting/profit-seeking motives?

Back in the day, a young professional generally wouldn't wear a suit that wasn't 100% wool; it wasn't elitist - it was simply the norm. Wool suits were widely available at various price points in every department store. These days, finding 100% wool men's clothing is challenging, and when you do find it, it's often expensive, limited in style and cut options, or part of a drastic clearance sale with few sizes available.

As recently as a few years ago, every so often, I could at least find basic 100% wool slacks from Ralph Lauren's downscale Lauren line occasionally on sale for around $100.00 on Macys.com, but those seem to have disappeared.
