‘I said my dog isn’t friendly’

We moved to a two acre farm and I finally got my dream dog, a German shepherd. She’s terrific, the epitome of what you can expect of her breed. She’s incredibly smart, she’s good at her assigned jobs around the property, she has a body count of at least 4 predators, and she’s honestly my best friend.

Though she’s well socialized, her ‘stranger danger’ is REAL! If someone comes to visit the property I have to open the gate for them, and usually give them a hug or something, just so she doesn’t alert me of potential danger.

We have posted warnings about my girl on every entrance to our property, (first pic) but twice now I’ve had salesmen or city workers come to my property, and still try to test their luck with her. The most recent time it happened a roof salesman was outside our gate, so true to breed standard, she alerted me of the stranger and ‘protected me’. Her hair was straight up, ears forward, full on demon barking, obviously not wanting to be approached. After I had verbally said at least three times ‘my dog isn’t friendly, please don’t pet her’, the salesman looks at me casually and says ‘Oh, I’m the dog whisperer. They love me! I have a Doberman and German shepherd at my house’. Crazy a dog whisperer can’t read basic body language from my dog. As he goes to hand me whatever flyer he has (even after politely declining and asking he not pass the fence line), he tries to pet her again, so my dog sat in front of me, stuck her head through the gate, and gave a warning snarl/snap.

She didn’t bite him, but even after I pointed out posted signs and asked why he ignored me when I said she wasn’t friendly, he once again tried to touch her tail. I had to pretty much physically subdue her at this point cause she took it as a threat after giving him a warning. Please trust that dog owners know their dogs. Please listen when we say our dog IS NOT FRIENDLY.

(Obviously I added the dog tax of my best girl)
